Spanx Faux Leather Leggings: Are They REALLY Worth it?! Plus Dupes

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Review

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Review

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings have been one of the trendiest fashion items on the market for a few years. After finally getting my own pair, I can see why! However, they are expensive, and only go on sale a few times a year, so you may be wondering if they are worth the money?! I’m answering all of all your questions about Spanx Faux Leather Leggings and giving you my honest review!

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings: A Honest Review

Let’s start off with my go-to response when I’m asked if I like my  Spanx Leggings. OH MY WORD, IM IN LOVE! In all seriousness though, I really do love them! I feel incredibly confident wearing them, which can be a struggle when I am wearing other leggings.

Spanx Pro’s

These leggings are very high quality! They will definitely last you more than a season and will wear well. I have friends who have owned their Spanx leggings for five years and they are still going strong. They are completely opaque and have a thicker material therefore you will never have to worry if someone can see your underwear, no matter how bright they may be!

Another pro, which for me is a big one, but they suck you in. They create a flat tummy and give you an amazing looking backside! This is why I feel so confident when I am wearing them! I don’t have to worry about them sliding down, stretching out, or having to pull them up over and over again. The waistband never rolls down and I feel like my lift my booty slightly. Also, do to the way the leggings are sewn, you will never have a camel toe which is a major plus!

I should also mention, that despite these leggings “sucking you in” they are very breathable and stretchy. I can wear them all day long and barely notice that they are there.

Spanx Con’s

The biggest con, hands down are the price.  They are $98 and the lowest I have seen them go on sale for is around $68, which is still a lot of money to spend on a pair of leggings.  Note – I have seen some of their other leggings, like the moto, grey or another trendy color go on sale for $48.

The Spanx Leather Leggings have a very distinct finish on them, which sets them apart from other leggings. They almost looked “crackled” and people have said that they tend to flake over time from washing them or normal rubbing when walking. I personally have not experienced this, however, I wash them inside out and I line dry them. I also do not wash them that often, if  I am being honest. These ARE NOT working out leggings! Therefore, I am wearing them on everyday errands, and out to dinner. I don’t sweat a lot in these are they just don’t get dirty that often.

How Do Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Fit? What Size Do I Get?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about Spanx! They run true to size and I would not size up or down. They are still leggings so they do stretch, but remember at the end of the day Spanx is a shapewear brand. This means that they might be slightly tight when trying to put them on. Don’t judge the fit before they are on all the way. If they feel overly tight once they are on, then size up. Mine feels almost like a second skin. I can tell that they are controlling my tummy area and bottom, but they are easy to breathe and move in.  I wear a size small and would consider them the perfect fit.

For height reference, I am 5’5 and they hit right at my ankle. They are easy to pull up if I want a more cropped look. They have petite, tall, and plus size available though!

Do Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Go On Sale?

Yes! They do go on sale! However, they don’t go on sale very often. They go on sale during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and for Black Friday. They may do a pop-up sale in the spring, but those two are the biggest sale events. The easiest way to know when they go on sale is to follow me on Instagram or in the free shopping app LIKEtoKNOWit. I am constantly posting the latest sales!

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Dupes

There are several dupe options out there and I hope to continue to update this blog post with new ones I find!

Dupe Option 1 – Khols

I really debated if I should save the best for last, but I am too excited, so I am sharing them first! These leggings are BY FAR the closest I have seen to the real thing. The texture, look, and even feel is spot on! In fact, they look so much alike that my friend Laura and I decided to do back to back looks to show you the similarities! Can you tell which one is real and which one is the fake?! Spoiler- My friend Laura is wearing the Khols dupes!

In the Khols faux leather leggings, I would definitely size down! I tried on a small and they were huge. Unfortunately, they were out of x-small, so I wasn’t able to try those on. This pair is normally $42, but right now they are on sale for $26. That price is pretty hard to beat! They come in 3 different colors too, in case you wanted to explore the colorful side of faux leather leggings.

One other thing to add. There is a Spanx line made for Khols and there is a pair of faux leather leggings. I tried them on and they were awful! To start, they looked more like the Grease costume pants than they did leggings and as you walked or sat down, you could hear the plastic move. I tried on a small and they were tight in all the wrong places, like my knee and thighs, however, I think a medium would have been too loose around my waist. I haven’t tried any of the other products from that line, so I do not want you to steer clear of the entire brand. Just know that these leggings are one to pass on.

Dupe Option 2 – Aerie/ American Eagle

There have been huge ravings over these leggings! This pair of leggings has 22 5 star reviews out of 22 total reviews. That means every single person gave this pair of leggings 5 stars! They are high waisted, full length and everyone is talking about how comfy they are. These are normally $55 and are on sale for $41. I am sure at some point they will be marked down further too.

Please know, that I have not tried these on in person, but have every intention too! While I normally don’t recommend products that I haven’t personally tried, I am pretty confident in recommending these leggings! The reviews speak for themselves and I will update you when I do finally try them.

Dupe Option 3 – Amazon

There are 3 that I picked out on Amazon for dupes. Two of which definitely have the “fake leather” look, but have a ton of reviews, while the other one looks more like the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings, but the reviews are okay.

The first pair is by Everbellus and has over 11 thousand reviews. Yes, you read that number right! They are high waisted and only $18. This is by far the cheapest faux leather leggings that I have found.

The second pair is made by Tagoo and has almost 5 thousand reviews. Again, they have more of a shiny sheen than the Spanx crackled look, but people seem to love them! they are $30.

The last pair looks like the Spanx and is $40. The reviews are kind of all over the place, but most people thought they were “cute and comfy.”

My Overall Thoughts

When deciding on which pair of faux leather leggings to purchase, I think you need to figure out what you want most out of the leggings? Is it purely the expensive faux leather legging look? If you are just looking for the look of Spanx, but not the price, I would go with the AE ones or the Khols. However, if you are looking for an amazing quality legging that you can wear often and one that will give you a slimming effect with tummy control, then I would splurge and buy the Spanx. I tend to splurge on clothing that I know I will wear year after year. With all of that being said there are some amazing dupes out there!

What do you think of Spanx Faux Leather Leggings? Do you own them or have you found the perfect dupe yourself?
